[Did You Know?] Painted tipis were the classic dwellings of the hunting tribes of the Plains. Skin tents were used by other Indians, but they never rivaled the Plains tipis in beauty and symmetry. Tipis ranged from hunting tents 12-feet in diameter to camp tipis nearly 30-feet across with poles 40-feet long.
