Another of my favourite workshop staples! ⚒️ Do you take the time to clean up soldered joins on things like jump rings? I do, even on the smallest ones. I find that the few extra seconds spent doing so gives a much higher quality finish, as well as giving me the opportunity to inspect each join and make sure it’s soldered properly. Rubber burrs are a massive timesaver for this task! My first choice for jump rings in particular is the one I’m using here. It’s an Eveflex Rubber Burr, 506 ...

I love soldering! As a general rule I use what we call pallions which are tiny bits of solder cut from a reel of solder wire. If you have a look back on some of my previous reels you’ll see what I mean. But when doing small pieces like this tiny jump ring the solder can fly off when you apply the heat from the torch. So for small solder joins like this I use solder paste. It’s solder ground down into a paste form and already has flux so no need to add any extra! You just dollop (yes that’s ...

How I Cut Jump Rings With A Dremel & Coil Cutter Tool
Here are some tips for making chainmaille/chainmail… • I prefer using sterling silver…if I’m putting in all that work to make & weave the jump rings, I’m opting for high quality metal. • Learn how to coil & cut your own rings, it’ll save you a lot of money on supplies. I’ve got a couple of tutorials/demos about how I cut jump rings. • Chainmail does not need to be soldered. If you get good closure on each ring, then tumble it after…it should NOT snag or break. I’ve got a Jens Pind (weave) necklace that I’ve had for over 16 years and it’s still looking good! • After the piece has been finished, I add a clasp and toss it into the tumbler for a bright finish. • Consider offering free cleaning for anyone who buys a masterpiece like the necklace shown. Find the paste I use here:

Paste solder is pretty neat! It’s a combo of solder particles and a flux binder that comes in a syringe so it’s easy to apply. In addition to using it on larger bezels like I did in this video it is also fantastic for smaller jobs like jump rings when you are making chain! It can be much easier to get the paste to sit where you want it on a jump ring than trying to balance a chip of solder. It’s also great for earring posts, attaching findings and doing repairs!! Expect solder to paste to bubble a bit, I do like to flux and heat my piece and then apply, I find it moves less when I do that! This paste is from our friends @pepetools_usa they have it in Extra East, East, Medium and Hard. They even have a cool stand for
