 • 1 tsp vanilla extract
 • 1 tbsp cinnamon
 • 1/8 tsp cloves
 • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
 • pinch of salt
 • Optional: add 1/2 cup or up to 1 cup of sugar to desired sweetness

Directions:
 • Combine all ingredients in a large crockpot and mix until apples are well coated
 • Heat on low for 6 hours or until mashable
 • Mash apples or use an immersion blender until no chunks remain
 • At this point you have made applesauce! Continue through the next steps to turn it into apple butter...
 • Heat on high, uncovered for 2-3 hours until the mixture has reduced and somewhat caramelized, stirring occasionally
