With just a few pantry staples and a touch of mellow shallot, my Maple Balsamic Vinaigrette is an easy homemade salad dressing to pull together in under 5 minutes. It adds instant flavor to salads or roasted veggies. Rich, tangy and lightly sweet, this recipe yields about 2/3 cups and is vegetarian and vegan.

Homemade dressing is always the best dressing. Full stop! This simple vinaigrette with maple syrup is no different. It’s one of my go-to recipes, especially anytime a salad includes fruit.

It pairs perfectly with apples, and is a delicious partner with my popular Juicy Apple and Beet Salad, with pears, blueberries and strawberries like in this Strawberry Goat Cheese Salad.

Once you make it, you’ll know why!

This Recipe Is

  • not *too* sweet
  • tangy and bold
  • rich and delicious

If you make homemade salad dressing, you’ll enjoy the tangy flavor and richness of this maple balsamic vinaigrette.

Traci’s Tips

  • Quality Ingredients: use a good quality extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Balsamic vinegars run the gamut of viscosity and sweetness (there’s a dizzying variety at the grocery store!). Use a brand that tastes good to you and has no added sugar or sweeteners.
  • Mixing: you can use a bowl and whisk to whip this dressing up, or put all the ingedients in a Mason jar and shake vigorously. Ether method works!

With just a few pantry staples and a touch of mellow shallot, my Maple Balsamic Vinaigrette is an easy homemade salad dressing to pull together in under 5 minutes. It adds instant flavor to salads or roasted veggies. Rich, tangy and lightly sweet, this recipe yields about 2/3 cup and is vegetarian and vegan.
(keep screen awake)

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup (55 grams) Balsamic Vinegar
  • 2-3 teaspoons Pure Maple Syrup *see note
  • 3/4 teaspoon Prepared Dijon Mustard
  • 2 teaspoon Shallot minced
  • Pinch Salt & Pepper
  • 1/3 cup (65 grams) Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, add the vinegar, maple syrup, dijon, shallot and salt and pepper. Whisking, drizzle in olive oil until a creamy emulsion is formed. Taste for maple syrup adjustment. The dressing should taste bold, slightly sweet and tangy.
Alternatively, add all the ingredients to a Mason jar and shake vigorously.
  • To Store: store in the refrigerator in a lidded container for up to a week. Before using, set at room temperature for about 15 minutes. Whisk or shake before using.

Notes

*Balsamic Vinegar: brands vary widely in sweetness and viscosity.  Depending on the sweetness of your vinegar, adjust the maple syrup to taste.
