Tray of fries with jar of boom boom sauce.

Dip your french fries in something so much more exciting than ketchup, like Boom Boom Sauce! It’s a mayo-based chili and garlic sauce made with easy ingredients. The creamy, spicy, and sweet flavors help regular french fries taste like the best comfort food ever.

I’m a huge fan of great dipping sauces, like ranch dressing and barbecue sauce, but a boom boom sauce recipe is on an entirely different level. There are a few different ways to make it, but most recipes feature mayonnaise, ketchup, chili sauce, and garlic. My version has extra layers of flavor and spice thanks to Sriracha and dijon mustard.

It’s a fantastic dipping sauce to serve with air fryer french fries, shrimp, burgers, baked potatoes, grilled meat and seafood, chicken tenders, and so much more! Try doubling the batch because you’ll be going through it all in no time.

What is boom boom sauce?

If you’re a fan of sweet, spicy, and garlicky flavors, then you’ll love boom boom sauce. These qualities make it the perfect dipping sauce for fries and burgers, but you can easily play with the spice level or amount of sweetness depending on what you’re serving it with.

The mayonnaise and ketchup base does a great job of cooling down the spice from the hot sauce while sweet chili sauce adds an extra layer of sweetness. Finish it off with mustard and simple seasonings for balance and depth, and you have a perfectly delicious boom boom sauce.

Ingredient notes

Besides being a versatile dipping sauce that always makes french fries taste better, this sauce is also easy to make with simple ingredients. You likely have most, if not all, of these in your kitchen already:

Boom boom sauce ingredients labeled on tray.
  • Mayonnaise
  • Ketchup – For tang, sweetness, and color.
  • Sweet chili sauce – The speckles of red chili flakes make sweet chili sauce look spicy, but it’s nicely balanced between sweet and savory. Try not to skip it!
  • Sriracha – Or replace it with another hot sauce you have on hand.
  • Dijon mustard – You can use regular mustard but it won’t have the same deep flavor of dijon.
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Salt and pepper

How to make boom boom sauce

It’s easy! Add all of the ingredients to a small bowl, stir to combine, and you’re done. You can use the creamy dipping sauce right away or store it in the fridge for later.

Ways to use it

  • It’s a must-have dipping sauce for french fries, zucchini fries, and green bean fries.
  • That’s not all! Dip chicken tenders or nuggets, brussels sprouts, or roasted cauliflower in the sauce as well.
  • Use it in burritos or on a burrito bowl.
  • Drizzle a little over a loaded baked potato or a sweet potato buddha bowl.
  • Pair it with all kinds of seafood, like air fried shrimp, fish taco bowls, or shrimp sushi bowls.
  • Add a spoonful or two on a french dip burger.

Variations

  • Want to make vegan boom boom sauce? Just replace the mayonnaise with your favorite plant based mayo.
  • If you’re not afraid of heat, add an extra tablespoon of Sriracha sauce.
  • If it’s too spicy, reduce the amount of hot sauce by 1 tablespoon.

How long does it last?

  • Boom boom sauce should last for about 1 month when it’s stored in an airtight container in the fridge.
