Line of rain and storms blow through Maryland Sunday evening

A strong cold front is sweeping through the Mid-Atlantic this evening, bringing a line of rain and a drop in temperatures. Stormy weather will move through central Maryland the eastern shore before midnight.

Showers and storms are moving through central Maryland

A line of rain and embedded thunderstorms is moving quickly eastward ahead of a strong cold front. The line of heavier rain is moving into the Baltimore metro. The heaviest rain is expected to fall in Baltimore County between 10:30 and 11:30. However, heavy rain will general last for less than 30 minutes at any particular spot. Flooding is not a major concern. We need the rain. Brief heavy rain will accompany this line of storms. Winds could gust up to 60 MPH in a few spots. Keep in mind, winds will gust 25 to 35 MPH across the entire state before rain even arrives. Occasional lightning and thunder is expected with the heaviest downpours.

The risk of a brief spin-up tornado is low, but not zero.

Gusty winds, few showers continue into Monday morning

Heavy rain exits our area shortly after midnight.

The temperatures will drop 10° to 15° as soon as the front and heavy rain moves through. Temperatures are forecast to settle back into the 40s and lower 50s by sunrise Monday morning. Winds will be gust between 20 and 30 MPH through the Monday morning commute, with spotty rain showers and drizzle.

Sunshine increases heading into the late-morning hours. The afternoon forecast includes more sunshine, breezy winds and temperatures peaking in the low to mid-60s across central Maryland.

Much chillier weather returns to Maryland by mid-week

Afternoon temperatures get a boost Tuesday; peaking in the upper 60s and lower 70s ahead of another front. Scattered light rain will accompany this front through central Maryland Tuesday afternoon and evening. Much chillier weather blows in behind it. Afternoons remain in the upper 50s and lower 60s in many areas Wednesday, onward.

Several mornings will be quite chilly this workweek. Patchy frost is likely Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings - mainly away from the city.
