Norah Jones’ “Feels Like Home” (Blue Note/Parlophone) tops the year-end composite European Top 100 Albums chart. The album spent five weeks at No. 1 on Top 100 Albums in February and March, and in October was awarded triple Platinum Europe certification from the IFPI for shipments of 3 million units. Additionally, Jones’ 2002 debut album, “Come Away With Me,” lands at No. 6 for 2004 and now has six-time Platinum Europe status.
The No. 2 European album of the year was Anastacia’s self-titled third set (Daylight/Epic), which logged an aggregate 14 weeks at the summit between April and September. All three of the New York-born artist’s albums have triple Platinum Europe status.
Black Eyed Peas’ durable “Elephunk” (A&M/Interscope), which made its chart debut in August 2003, is the No. 3 album for 2004.
Two more highly successful 2003 albums extended their success into 2004. Dido’s “Life for Rent” (Cheeky/Arista) is No. 4 on the year-end chart, and Evanescence’s “Fallen” (Wind-Up/Epic) is No. 5.
Guns N’ Roses’ “Greatest Hits” (Geffen), a big European favorite in the first half of 2004, is No. 7, followed by Avril Lavigne’s “Under My Skin” (Arista). The current No. 1 on European Top 100 Albums, Robbie Williams’ “Greatest Hits” (Chrysalis), lands at No. 9 for the year; Williams also has the No. 13 spot with his concert set “Live at Knebworth.” “Seal IV” (Warner Bros.) rounds out the year-end top 10.
O-Zone’s novelty smash “Dragostea Din Tei” (Media Services/Time) tops the year-end Eurochart Hot 100 Singles survey. The first Europe-wide No. 1 song to originate from Romania, it led the aggregate survey for 12 weeks from June to early September. The rival version of the track by Haiducci, another major European hit, is No. 9 for the year.
Black Eyed Peas’ “Shut Up” (A&M/Interscope), one of the singles from “Elephunk,” is No. 2 on the year-end Eurochart. Dominican group Aventura is No. 3 with “Obsesion” (Up Music/Warner Music), which was No. 1 on the Eurochart for an aggregate six weeks in September and October.
“Yeah” (Arista) by Usher featuring Lil’ Jon & Ludacris gets the No. 4 spot for the year after topping the Eurochart for eight weeks last spring, and Eamon’s “F**k It (I Don’t Want You Back)” (Jive), which ruled for three weeks in May and June, is No. 5 overall.
