Lots of people around the world will be celebrating Diwali, which falls on Monday 20th October this year.
It's also known as the festival of lights and lasts for five days.
The event is observed by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains.
During Diwali, people decorate their homes with lots of lights, including small oil lamps called diyas.

Lots of people eat special snacks during Diwali
There are many different stories connected to Diwali.
In Hinduism, the event celebrates the return of deities Rama and Sita to Ayodhya after the defeat of an evil king called Ravana.
One of the reasons Sikhs celebrate Diwali is linked to the release of the sixth guru, Hargobind Singh, from prison in 1619. But Sikhs celebrated the festival before this date.
In Jainism, which is an ancient Indian religion, people celebrate the moment Lord Mahavira, who is often regarded as its founder, reached a state called Moksha (nirvana, or eternal bliss).
How is Diwali celebrated today?

People celebrate Diwali with friends and family
Diwali is celebrated in lots of different ways.
As well as decorating their homes with lights, some people clean their homes during the event and also shop for gold or silver kitchen items to help bring good fortune.
People often dress up in new clothes, exchange gifts and prepare and eat delicious foods with their friends and family.
There are also huge fireworks displays and lots of sparklers too.
