In my view, general statements of bad behavior in a group of people made in public may be regarded as offensive unless they are clearly applicable to the majority of that group (in which case the evidence they are based on should be made clear too).

For example, I don't think it would be appropriate to say something like "White males abuse their wives" in a public dispute out of any deeper context.
