> A hilarious juxtaposition.

I'm glad I was able to bring some amusement to your life, but I fear it might have just been a misunderstanding.

The reason for being polite and respectful is not because people might be fragile, but because people are easily distracted - they hear the loudest message and have to focus to hear other messages.
If you are impolite or disrespectful, people will hear that and might miss your intended message. If you want your message to be heard, then present it in a way that lets people focus on it - ideally in a way that draws people towards it.

Wow, the statement of your theory as a practical example of itself... Really enjoyed reading that kind of gem.

Sorry, I wasn't being sarcastic. Maybe that was poor wording on my part (is gem that often used ironically?)

I genuinely enjoyed Neil's comment a lot for I feel it's great wisdom, not only for its pleasant self-reference or its rhetorical structure. I suppose we all know more or less that starting a fight is definitely not the good way to solve an issue, yet I'd never laid a finger on it so clearly.

Anyway, I will definitely try and think "focus, what's the goal here?" in the future to help me avoid escalating tensions in my teamwork.

As a retired maintainer, Neil speaks from experience. And the community he led is a happy one, in my experience.

Cheers,

A very happy one. It's hard to think of many other communities as collegial and helpful-to-a-fault. TeX would count, but no others I'm aware of.
