Local health officials praise community

Gunnison health officials have a strong message for the community in light of another week of novel coronavirus: We’re not through this yet.

Those were the words of Gunnison County Health and Human Services Director Joni Reynolds on Wednesday morning, following a week of rising numbers of positive COVID-19 cases, and the first death in the county related to the virus.

On Monday, Gunnison County Coroner Michael Barnes reported the March 13 death of a 56 year-old Crested Butte man was due to “complications from COVID-19.” The result of his test was not received until 10 days later. The wife of Michael Larson, owner of Mikey’s Pizza, confirmed the victim was her husband. (See related story.)
