The Nihka rocket motor was developed for use as the third stage of the Black Brant X sounding racket. Schedule and cost constraints dictated a low risk development program, which was achieved by using proven hardware wherever possible, together with a high performance propellant/liner system. The motor weighed 398.7 kg and delivered a total impulse of 908,770 N-s in vacuum. The first test flight took place twenty months after initiation of design.
