You don’t have to visit Cambridge to apply to the University but our open days and events give you a chance to get a feel for the University and city, find out more about admissions procedures, courses and facilities, and ask any questions you may have.

College open days give you the opportunity to get a sense of what College life is like, and to pick up a wide range of useful information (visiting a particular College doesn’t commit you to applying to that College).

Throughout the year a number of faculties and departments offer open days that focus on the specific course(s) in that faculty/department. You can meet some of the lecturers, and see the libraries and other facilities.

Sutton Trust Summer Schools
Sutton Trust Summer Schools are free subject-specific residential courses for Year 12 students studying at state-maintained schools in the UK. The five-day summer schools in July and August allow students to explore their interest in one of 26 subjects and gain an insight into what it is like to live and study as a first-year undergraduate student at Cambridge.

Widening participation
The University and its Colleges are committed to widening participation to the University and to higher education. Outreach initiatives and events are run each year both in Cambridge and in schools and colleges across the UK.
Events for teachers, tutors and HE advisers
As well as events for prospective students, a number of events for teachers, tutors and HE advisers are organised by the Cambridge Admissions Office (CAO) and several of the Colleges. These events provide up-to-date information about the University, including the application procedure and the range of outreach activities on offer.
If you can’t make it to an open day or event
If you can’t make an open day, you’re welcome to visit us at another time. College and some department grounds are open for most of the year for you to visit. However, while Colleges and departments do their best to help prospective applicants to visit them, there are restrictions and/or charges for tourists at certain Colleges and at certain times (such as during exams) so do check with the College(s)/department before you come.
If you’d like to speak to College staff during a visit to Cambridge, please contact that College’s Admissions Office in advance to arrange this.
