The Faculty's academic groups bring together staff and research students with cognate research interests in particular areas of education, to develop research projects, joint activities and share expertise. As well as meeting more informally, many of the academic groups organise open seminar series.

EED specialises in the economics, history, philosophy and sociology of education and psycho-social research on aspects of education.
ELPEC researchers have diverse interests including school effectiveness, teacher quality and in particular the contribution made to learning by different types of leaders and leadership styles.
PLACE has a wide range of expertise in a diverse yet overlapping set of disciplines within or aligned to education.
The P&E Group brings the perspectives of cognitive psychology and socio-cultural theory to key issues in Education, focusing upon language, learning, and communication.
STEM researches the teaching and learning of mathematics and science at primary and secondary school levels, and the professional education and training of teachers.
The Faculty is also home to several Research and Teaching Centres.
