There are many funding opportunities at Cambridge from a wide variety of sources including the Cambridge Trust, Gates Cambridge, Colleges, Departments, Research Councils and central University funds.

Funding from the Cambridge Trust, Gates Cambridge, the Arts & Humanities and Economic & Social Research Councils (AHRC and ESRC), and some other University awards can be applied for by completing Section B of the GRADSAF by the appropriate deadline.

Eligibility Application method Deadline

The Cambridge Trust awards approximately 500 scholarships annually to selected students at PhD, Masters and undergraduate level, in all subjects. Of these, about one-third are full-cost. The principal channel for funding for international students at Cambridge, the Trust works with more than 80 funding partners to enhance the range of scholarships available, and aspires to support as many outstanding students as possible.

Gates Cambridge awards 95 full-cost scholarships each year for a postgraduate degree in any subject at the University of Cambridge. Scholars are selected on the basis of their intellectual ability, academic fit with the proposed course, leadership capacity and commitment to improving the lives of others.

The UK Research Councils fund research in arts, humanities, science and engineering disciplines. Scholarships are normally for doctoral study.

Many students are successful in gaining funding from sponsors in their home country to bring to Cambridge.

43% of graduate students admitted in 2014/15 received a scholarship or bursary from funds administered by the collegiate University. 41% of these students received a full award that covered both fees and living costs.
