Welcome to the School of Arts and Humanities

The term ‘School’ in Cambridge usually indicates an administrative grouping of related subjects. The School of Arts and Humanities is one of six Schools, and comprises the Faculties of Architecture and History of Art, Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, Classics, Divinity, English, Modern and Medieval Languages, Music, and Philosophy, and includes all the Departments that fall within the scope of these Faculty Boards. Also within the scope of the School are the Centre for Research in Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, and the Language Centre. The School has an elected supervisory body - The Council of the School - comprising representatives of all of its constituent faculties and departments. At least one member of each Council must be a member of the General Board. Each Council acts as a co-ordinating organisation for its group of Faculties, and filters much academic business before its transmission to the General Board.
