The Whittle Laboratory is part of the Cambridge University Engineering Department and is situated about 2 miles from the Department of Engineering on the West Cambridge Site.
Specialising in research into the fluid dynamics and thermodynamics of all types of turbomachinery, the laboratory has excellent contacts with industry and other research organisations. Much of the research is supported by contracts from industries and governments from around the world with work in the Laboratory being equally divided between the numerical prediction of the flow through turbomachines and the experimental research using a wide variety of facilities.
New projects are always being prepared and so we welcome applications from good quality students and postdocs in other fields of research. In the case of applications for MSc's and PhD's it is also possible to provide funding via EPSRC and similar Studentships (see Graduate Prospectus, Gates Foundation). Overseas students are also eligible for an ORS bursary.
Prospective research students are encouraged to email the Whittle Laboratory Administrator or contact members of staff in charge of projects in which they are especially interested. We are not accepting applications for internships at present.
