The Cambridge Archaeological Unit was founded in 1990 by Christopher Evans and Dr Ian Hodder, and operates out of the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology, University of Cambridge.

On all types of projects the CAU offers a full range of archaeological services supported by the academic and scientific expertise of the University of Cambridge.

Our pioneering landscape sampling techniques have proven successful on motorway, new town, quarry and inner-city development sites, providing a highly efficient practice complementary to industry.

With the aim of bridging the research and commercial sectors the unit believes development of innovative techniques are crucial to maintaining the highest standards of both academic and professional practice.

Our service is designed to fulfil all planning requirements from desktop assessment through to full excavation and publication.

Our proven record of delivering results within an agreed time-scale and budget has enabled a continual growth into one of the leading archaeological contracting organisations in the United Kingdom.
