Founded in 1914, the International Fellowship of Reconciliation is an international, spiritually-based movement of people who, from the basis of a belief in the power of love and truth to create justice and restore community, commit themselves to active nonviolence as a way of life and as a means of transformation–personal, social, economic and political.
We are people from many faith traditions and many who don’t subscribe to any particular religious background or community. IFOR has members working in 40 different countries, speaking a variety of different native languages, and expressing a wide away of cultures. What unites us is our commitment to a world free of war and structural violence.
The majority of the work of IFOR is done through the 71 member organizations (or branches, groups and affiliates) around the world. Where there are no branches, there are often courageous individuals acting on IFOR’s behalf.

Every four years, IFOR member organizations send delegates to an international council that helps determine the shape of IFOR’s work in the years to come. At that council two primary bodies are chosen.
The Representative Consultative Committee gives regional and demographic balance in the years following council. The RCC takes on a variety of tasks to help guide the fellowship and assist with coordination and governance.
The principle governing body between international Councils. The International Committee (ICom) is responsible for determining the shape of work of the Secretariat and ensuring the overall health of the IFOR community and organization.
The International Secretariat is responsible for coordinating the work of IFOR around the world. IFOR has consultative status at the United Nations and is represented in New York, Geneva, Paris, and Vienna by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers.
The International Coordinator is the chief executive officer of the Secretariat. He or she is similar to the executive director in other organizations. In IFOR emphasis is placed on collaborative leadership and coordination which is why we have chosen this title.
The ongoing work of IFOR is very much dependent on the contributions of individual donors from around the world. IFOR is very grateful to have partnered with a number of granting institutions but we do not rely on granting institutions to maintain the IFOR network.
