World Cancer Day 2013 - IAEA Director General Statement
4 February 2013 | IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano delivered a statement to mark World Cancer Day. This year's theme - Did You Know? - provides a key opportunity to improve general knowledge about cancer and dispel misconceptions of the disease.

Like in many Africa countries, cancer cases in Sudan are on the increase, and the facilities in one of the continent's largest countries are overburdened. Speaking in Vienna, Mahmoud Hassan El Amin of the Sudan Embassy to the UN and the IAEA discusses the cancer situation in his country and the assistance Sudan receives from the IAEA, 4 February 2013.
Any number of pollutants can get into drinking water, from arsenic, to sewage, and even petroleum. Polluted drinking water can devastate a population's health and even the national economy. The IAEA's scientists help governments around the world figure out where the pollution stems from, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent future problems, 17 January 2013.
Since 1996, the IAEA's International Physical Protection Advisory Service (IPPAS) has been helping states to identify ways to strengthen the protection of nuclear materials and facilities.
