A novel way to buy and read books.

Books as you’ve never
seen them before.
More than an amazing ebook reader, iBooks is also a great place to browse and shop for books anytime, day or night. Vibrant colors, rich illustrations, and crisp, sharp text on the Retina display make reading a pleasure. Tap the iBooks icon and your bookshelf appears. Tap the Store button and the bookshelf flips around like a secret passageway to reveal the iBookstore, where you can browse tens of thousands of books — many of them free. Browse by title, author, or genre. View what’s featured on the iBookstore, the New York Times best-seller lists, and more. When you find a book you like, tap it to see more details, peruse reviews, even read a free sample. Download the book and it appears on your bookshelf, ready to read. As your library grows, quickly group books or PDFs into collections to keep your bookshelf neat and organized. Your new books automatically download to your iPad and iPod touch, so you’ll never be without your favorite reads.1

Change your reading habits.
Unlike paper books — or ebooks on many other devices — books on iPhone change to suit the way you read. Adjust the brightness. Change the font or text size for most books. Switch between portrait and landscape view, and the text adjusts to fit. Touch and hold any word to look it up in the built-in dictionary or Wikipedia, or to search for it throughout the book and on the web. Highlight text and refer to it later. iBooks also works with VoiceOver, the screen reader in iPhone, so it can read you the contents of any page.
An entire library in your pocket.
You’ll find over 200,000 books on the iBookstore, and more arrive every day. iBooks uses the ePub format — the most popular open book format in the world — so publishers can easily create iBooks versions of your favorite reads. And you can find free ePub titles on the web using your Mac or PC and sync them to the iBooks app on your iPhone.

There’s more to the story.
iBooks now features illustrated books for your reading — and viewing — pleasure. The iPhone Retina display brings rich, colorful detail to every page, so images look just as the author intended. Download gorgeous, full-page children’s books, cookbooks, and art books. Flip through Enhanced Books, where you can hear an author read a favorite passage, watch supplementary video, or flick through a library of photo extras for the inside story. Or listen to a narrator bring a book to life with the read-aloud feature.
Try more titles. Including PDFs.
The iBooks app also works with your PDF documents — user guides, business proposals, project plans, and more. Select a PDF from an email message on your iPhone and open it in the iBooks app, where it appears on the bookshelf. Or add a PDF to your iTunes library on your Mac or PC and sync it to your iPhone. In iBooks, you can tap a button to switch between viewing your iBooks titles and your PDFs. Tap a PDF and it fills the screen. Swipe through pages, add bookmarks, or zoom in for a closer look — even print what’s onscreen via AirPrint.2

Get lost in a good book. Without losing your place.
When you take a break from reading, iBooks automatically saves your place across all your devices. So you can start a book on your iPhone and pick up where you left off on your iPad or iPod touch. As you read, check the page navigator to see where you are in the story. Or jump to any chapter right from the table of contents. And if you read something especially interesting or inspiring, use the Bookmarking feature to highlight text and make notes — perfect for students.
