Linpus to showcase its Linpus Lite for MeeGo™ netbook edition at IDF in San Francisco
Linpus adds improved social network categorization to its Linpus Lite for MeeGo™
Linpus, a leader in the field of open source operating system solutions in the consumer space, announced today further enhancements to its Meego-based version of its Linpus Lite, which is optimized for the Intel® Atom™ processor. Linpus Lite is their highly successful consumer device operating system specially designed to deliver a better mobile Internet and netbook experience.
Linpus originally brought one of the first MeeGo-based operating systems to market in time for Computex. They have since upgraded it to include better categorization of the social networking and recent object panel in M-Zone. Originally, the Facebook and other social networking alerts all ran through the same panel, Linpus has created a tab for each of the different sites making it easier to find your messages.
“Giving a different tab for each social network was something extremely popular with our clients on our Moblin edition,” said Rita Jing, vice-president of sales, Linpus. “Even though the layout of MeeGo is a little different, it was still beneficial to extent this feature to our MeeGo edition.”
Linpus' version has added a number of enhancements:
*More social network support in M-Zone – Flickr and MySpace.
*Online support – Linpus commercial grade LiveUpdate function to deliver device-specific patches, upgrades and new applications to your system.
*Power management – Advanced settings and options for idle mode and auto-suspend – as well as fine-tuning mean power savings of around 15 to 20%.
*Network Manager – More 3G modems and device-to-device file transfer (adhoc), VPN, PPPoE and WPA2-enterprise support.
*Linpus Windows Data Applications – If you have dual-boot with Windows, these applications help you view Outlook data, music and videos.
*Peripheral support – Linpus has unprecedented experience in the Linux consumer bundle market, meaning they have included support for a huge range of printers, projectors, and other hardware.
*Extremely fast boot.
*File Manager – A Windows-like experience means that the partitions of USB drives are now alphabetically labeled, and easy to find.
*International keyboard – This application allows users to switch between the keyboards of four different languages with just the tap of an icon.
Linpus will be showing Linpus Lite for MeeGo in the MeeGo Community at IDF, along with several of their other products. Namely, Linpus Lite their own distro, and Linpus QuickOS, their fast-boot with a sub-3 second start up.
IDF takes place at the Moscone Center West, San Francisco from September 13th to 15th.
