Emirati Alumni of US Universities – Renewing the Connection
DUBAI – OCTOBER 5, 2010
On Tuesday, October 5, 2010 the American Business Council of Dubai & the Northern Emirates (ABC) will honor UAE Nationals who have studied at US colleges and universities with a reception at the Opera Gallery in DIFC.
Emirati alumni of US universities may register to attend the October 5th event at [email protected]. The event begins at 7pm.
The keynote address will be given by His Excellency Hamad M. Buamim, Director General, Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry. The event aims to acknowledge and strengthen connections between Emirati and American networks through the shared value of higher education.
H.E. Buamim earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees in the United States. He graduated Magna Cum Laude, University of Southern California – Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and received a Masters of Business in finance with honors from the University of Missouri. His background spans both the public and private sectors. Mr. Buamim has been Director General at the Dubai Chamber since November 2006. Prior to joining Dubai Chamber, he held positions at Dubai Economic Council as Secretary General and HSBC Bank as corporate Senior Manager. He began his career at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority as a Senior System Engineer.
According to the 2009 Open Doors Report issued by the Institute of International Education, over 1,200 Emiratis studied at US universities during the 2008-09 academic year. This statistic reinforces the growing trend of Emirati students choosing to study in the US.
“Emirati students can choose to study at many outstanding universities at home or abroad. When an Emirati student studies at an American university, he or she is a cultural ambassador for the UAE and immeasurably enriches the learning environment for all students. We appreciate and will honor these contributions at this reception,” said John Boehm, President of the American Business Council.
