and Housing Census 2001 Findings
The Population Census 2001 Country Report (Volume 1) is the first
volume published in the series of Population Census Reports. It provides
tabulations based on the final data and presents the main findings
from the information collected on the short form and the household
form. This report provides a national profile based on the topics
covered on the basic census questionnaire.

Size and Growth
The number of persons usually resident in Jamaica at September 10,
2001 was 2,607,632 of which:
Private Dwellings - 2,587,831
Institutions - 19,399
Found on the Streets between 5 and 7 am on September 26 - 402.
The
count of 2,607,632 represents an increase of 226,965 or 9.5 per
cent over the 1991 census count of 2,380,667. The average annual
growth rates of 0.91 per cent was only slightly lower than the 0.93
per cent growth seen for the previous intercensal period and significantly
lower than the 1.42 per cent for the 1970-82 intercensal period.
The components of this increase were additions of 603,090 attributable
to births and losses amounting to 376,125,the result of deaths and
migration.
