Janet Napolitano toured the Phoenix Science Operations Center today, seeing first hand the facility where scientists from around the world will direct the robotic exploration of Mars this summer and analyze the findings. Along with University of Arizona President Robert Shelton, Lunar and Planetary Laboratory Director Michael Drake and Phoenix Principal Investigator Peter Smith, Napolitano saw up close the working engineering model of the lander, and she addressed the project's staff, praising their accomplishments and looking ahead to the science that will be led by the UA. "It's exciting.
