Notable Americans with Czech Roots from Early Colonial Times to Present
(A press release) The Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences (SVU) has undertaken an ambitious task to compile an authoritative dictionary of notable personalities with Czech roots who have influenced and shaped American history and culture, particularly of the US and Canada. This monumental effort, encompassing biographies of significant men and women from the colonial times to the present, is directed by Past SVU President Dr. Miloslav Rechcigl, a recognized authority on the history of Czech Americans. |

This undertaking should not be viewed as a traditional Who�s Who, consisting of a chance listing of individuals, based on their current popularity, or who have financially contributed towards its publication. Instead, it is planned as an objective, systematic and comprehensive effort to include all important persons in specific fields of human endeavor. Accordingly, the resulting reference work will be organized into specific sections by profession or area of expertise. Apart from the deserving individuals who were born on the territory of the historic Czech Lands, the plan is to include distinguished American personages of Czech ancestry, irrespective of when or where they were born. Suggestions that meet the above criteria are welcome.
