Marc Gené, like many of today’s top drivers, started his racing career in Go Karts. He was first in the Spanish Kart Championship in 1988 and 1990, and first in the Catalan Kart Championship in 1991. Gené moved to formula cars in 1993, and by 1994 he was racing in the British Formula 3 Championship where he garnered “Rookie of the Year” honors. The following year, he had two podium placings in the same series and was named as one of the “three fastest drivers” in the series.

In 1996, Gené took 1st in the Fisa Super Golden Cup Superformula, with one win and four podium finishes. In 1998, he won the Open Formula by Nissan Championship. By 1999, Marc Gené had moved to Formula 1 cars, driving for Minardi; he ended up 17th overall in the series. Gené continued racing for Minardi through 2000 (19th overall in F1 Championship) and in 2001 he became a test driver for Williams BMW, a role he continued through the 2002 season.

His last F1 start was for Williams in 2004. During his F1 career, Marc Gene started 16 Formula 1 races, finished 22 times, and finished in the points two times. Since 2005, Gené has been a test driver for Ferrari and its F1 program.
