The Prime Minister of the Transitional National
Government (TNG) of Somalia, Col. Hassan Abshir Farah had the day
before yesterday held many hours long session with the commanders of
the armed forces and the Banadir regional administration officials at
Hotel Ramadan, Mogadishu. The focal point of the meeting was to
address the security situation of Mogadishu. The officials in the
meeting discussed ways in which they could improve the deteriorating
security situation of the city.
In an emotionally charged speech, Mr. Farah said that
he was fed up with the long period of waiting for the opposition
leaders to join his government. He stated that two months has passed
since he was appointed to the position, and yet he had to nominate his
cabinet and therefore he could not do anything because he had to wait
for the opposition to join them.
“We are not going out to retake the areas held by the
opposition factions; however, we are not going to tolerate anyone who
supports the robbery”, he announced. Mr. Farah declared that any
thug who does not lay down his gun would be shot at, adding that those
willing to protect them (the thugs) should come forth. You see how
women and children are being treated in the streets of Mogadishu and
others are being forced to pay illegal charge for using the public
streets, Mr. Farah has been quoted as saying. “Here he is, the chief
of operations of the armed forces” Mr. Farah Said, pointing his
finger at General Naji, sitting close to him. “We will stand firm
against the robbers, and the public has to give hand to the police
forces with their duties and their responsibilities; by Allah, by
Allah, the national force can not be matched by any clan militia, and
General Naji is here; what we have our weapons for is to use against
the internal (local) enemy and against the external (foreign)
enemy”, he said; adding that “Sometime in the past, the folks that
were in Mogadishu had a dispute with the Americans, and they (the
Americans) lost 18 soldiers as a result, but they killed thousands of
thousands of Somalis, therefore, those 18 soldiers are not better than
the number of Somalis killed”.
Bin Laden and his group have no presence in
Mogadishu, and they have no objections to the Americans to come to
Mogadishu, Mr. Farah said. He also stated that they are willing to
show them everywhere.
