Burstein running for Brookline, Massachusetts office ****************************************************************** Science fiction writer and former SFWA officer Michael A. Burstein announced his candidacy, Monday, for a seat on the Board of Trustees for the Brookline, Massachusetts Public Library. "As a working science fiction writer with about thirty stories published in the past ten years, I feel I can bring a special perspective to the Board," Burstein said. His goals for the Library include increasing the materials budget to keep up with inflation, getting more authors involved in Library programs, and surveying the genre fiction in the Library's current collection." Burstein was born in New York City and grew up in the neighborhood of Forest Hills, Queens, where his mother still lives. He attended Hunter College High School in Manhattan, graduated from Harvard College in 1991 with a degree in Physics, and went on to earn a Master's in Physics at Boston University in 1993. He attended the 1994 Clarion Science Fiction and Fantasy Writer's Workshop in East Lansing, Michigan. Burstein is the Science Coordinator K-8 and Middle School Science Teacher at the Rashi School in Newton, Massachusetts. He lives in Brookline, Massachusetts with his wife Nomi. May 10 Update: Michael Burstein wins! Burstein was essentially unopposed in the May 5 election in which 4 candidates competed for 4 positions.
