Welcome to the Murphy Lab
We like to play around with hypervalent iodine reagents. This includes blue LED chemistry of iodonium ylides, a-carbonyl halogenation, fluorinative rearrangements and HVI-mediated C–C bond forming reactions. We also engage in industrially-relevant deuterium chemistry, developing novel methods for deuterating small-molecule organics from either D2O or D2.
Graduate and Undergraduate students:
We are always looking for motivated students to join our team. Those interested in carrying out Chem392 or Chem494 projects, as well as internships, exchanges or co-op placements in our labs are encouraged to contact Dr. Murphy.
Prospective domestic graduate students are invited to contact Dr. Murphy regarding positions available.
Prospective international students are strongly encouraged to review the admission requirements to assess their eligibility, and to submit their application packages early.
Offers of a graduate position can only be made upon admission to the graduate program at the University of Waterloo.
Postdoctoral applicants: No positions available at this time.
