What characteristics is USCIS looking for?
USCIS is dedicated to strengthening and upholding the integrity of America’s immigration system, and we invite you to join us in this important mission. Every day, we work to administer the nation’s lawful immigration system while safeguarding the country from fraud, security threats, and risks to public safety.
We are looking for talented and dedicated individuals to fill key positions nationwide. Be a part of our team to help defend the homeland and shape the future of our nation.
How long will I have to wait?
We have cut the bureaucratic red tape and can make on-the-spot job offers at upcoming job fairs. USCIS will be able to conduct real-time hiring using our Direct Hiring Authority (DHA). DHA permits USCIS to fill critical positions with highly qualified candidates without the need to use the traditional hiring process. Job announcements indicate Direct Hiring Authority.
DHA:
- Expedites the hiring process by allowing agencies to select any qualified applicant without competitive rating and ranking procedures, after public notice is given (veterans’ preference does not apply under DHA);
- Allows federal agencies to address critical hiring needs or severe shortages of candidates when granted by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM);
- Enables agencies to appoint candidates directly into competitive service career, career-conditional, term, and temporary positions; and
- Ensures applicants still meet basic minimum qualifications regarding experience, education, or a combination of the two.
