How It Works

  1. Claim a domain through Gravatar
  2. Set up your profile on your new personal website
  3. Activate email forwarding
  4. Create your email address — choose any prefix with your domain
  5. Start receiving emails immediately in your current inbox

All emails sent to your new custom address are automatically forwarded to the email linked to your Gravatar account.

Getting Started

Step 1: Purchase Your Domain

Start the process during Gravatar onboarding, our marketing page or from your profile editor:

In the left sidebar of your profile editor you see a link to claim your domain
  • Choose an available domain name
  • Complete the registration
  • Your domain is automatically configured for email forwarding

Step 2: Set Up Email Forwarding

  1. Go to Account Settings in your Gravatar profile
  2. Navigate to Profile URL section
  3. Expand Email forward
  4. Enter your desired email prefix (e.g., your name, or “me”, “hello”, “contact”)
  5. Click Save

Your new email address will be [email protected]

Step 3: Start Using Your New Address

  • Receiving emails: All messages forward to your primary email of your Gravatar account.
    Because of security and anti-spam requirements, there might be a waiting period till the forwarding is activated. The availability date is shown in your account settings.
  • Sending emails: You can reply with the email address of your inbox – replying with your custom domain email address is not possible during your free tier period. If you upgrade to a paid account this is possible, requires however additional configuration.

Managing Your Email Address

You can update and change your email address, if you remove the previous custom email.

  1. Go to Account Settings → Profile URL → Email forward
  2. Remove your email address forwarding
  3. Add a new email prefix
  4. Click Save
  5. Changes take effect immediately
