Saints work out XFL guard ahead of minicamp
The New Orleans Saints are staying active ahead of minicamp as they continue to search for added depth across the roster. Alongside a handful of player visits over the past weekend and into this week, the team has hosted several workouts -- including a recent one with offensive guard Vitaliy Gurman of the XFL's San Antonio Brahmas, per KPRC2's NFL insider Aaron Wilson. The Saints have also tried out tight end Seth Green, another XFLer, while bringing in running back Cam Akers and wide receiver Gabe Davis.
Gurman began his professional career in 2022 after signing with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Toledo. Since then, he’s spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders, Arizona Cardinals, and New York Jets before making the move to the XFL.
The guard position will be one to watch during camp. Trevor Penning is currently projected to start on the left side opposite Cesar Ruiz, while former Titans lineman Dillon Radunz and 2018 Saints seventh-round pick Will Clapp are expected to be key rotational pieces. Though there will be chances for younger players to make an impression, many will likely end up as developmental options or practice squad candidates by summer’s end.
