Packers vs. Aaron Rodgers: Green Bay Looking to Officially Finish a Chapter
While all games on an NFL schedule are important, there are some that stand out as games with bigger storylines. For the Green Bay Packers, Week 8 has been circled from the very beginning of the year.
Of course, as most fans know, the Packers will be taking on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football this week. That means Aaron Rodgers will have his first chance to play against his former team since being traded to the New York Jets and being replaced by Jordan Love.
It's a big game for both teams. Green Bay will enter this week's showdown with a 4-1-1 record and as the best team in the NFC. The Steelers, on the other hand, are coming off of a tough loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 7 that dropped them to 4-2 on the season.
Through the first seven weeks of the season, both Green Bay and Pittsburgh have looked the part of potential Super Bowl contenders.
Another storyline in this game will be Love facing off against Rodgers. It's a battle of mentor vs. protege. Love has been putting together an impressive season thus far, but Rodgers has looked happy, healthy, and back to his former self as well.
Both teams are loaded with talent on both sides of the football. Defensively, an intriguing matchup will be seen between Micah Parsons and T.J. Watt, two of the best edge rushers in football.
This is the final page of the Rodgers chapter for the Packers. He has been gone for a few years now, but they have not had a chance to play him. As for Rodgers, it's a chance to follow in Brett Favre's footsteps once again.
Favre is currently one of only four quarterbacks to beat all 32 teams in the NFL. The other three names on that list are Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Drew Brees. Rodgers can join that elite company with a win on Sunday night.
Beating Rodgers would mean something a little more for Love and Green Bay. Moving on from a longtime franchise quarterback is never easy. When that quarterback is a clear-cut future Hall of Famer and arguably a top-five quarterback of all-time, it's even more difficult.
Love has a chance to prove the Packers right for their decision. A loss won't mean much in the grand scheme of things, but being able to beat Rodgers would be a massive confidence boost for the 26-year-old quarterback.
While Green Bay has to be careful not to build this game up too much, it's going to be an emotional and entertaining matchup. Rodgers will want to stick it to the Packers one last time, while the franchise will be looking to end its chapter against Rodgers on a high note.
Sunday night simply can't get here soon enough.
