NHL Makes Scoring Change After Red Wings-Sabres Game

The NHL announced a scoring correction following the Buffalo Sabres’ 4–2 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday night at KeyBank Center.

The update was posted by the NHL's Public Relations account on X.

“OFFICIAL SCORING CHANGE: Game 109 @DetroitRedWings at @BuffaloSabres. Goal at 8:10 of the third period now reads Alex Tuch from Josh Doan and Ryan McLeod. #NHLStats.”

The correction clarified the fourth goal of the Sabres, originally given to Josh Doan. After review, the NHL determied that Tuch touched the puck last before it crossed the line, crediting him with the goal.

Doan was credited the primary assist, and McLeod was awarded a secondary assist for his role in the transition play that helped seal Buffalo’s victory and end Detroit’s five-game winning streak.

Doan fired a one-timer from the left circle that deflected off Tuch in front, giving the Sabres a two-goal cushion they would not relinquish.

Tuch’s tally followed a power-play goal from Jack Quinn earlier in the third period. Quinn finished with a goal and two assists, marking his strongest outing of the young season.

“When Jack gets to the middle of the ice, you know we’re going to see a real good play,” Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff said in praise of Quinn’s skating and decision-making.

Ellis, making his NHL debut after being claimed off waivers from St. Louis, stopped 29 shots in an emotional first win.

Jason Zucker and Tyson Kozak also scored for Buffalo, while Ryan McLeod added two assists. For Detroit, J.T. Compher and rookie Emmitt Finnie had goals, but penalties and a sluggish start proved costly on Wednesday.

The victory improved Buffalo’s record to 3–4–0, while Detroit fell to 5–2–0. The Sabres host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday, while the Red Wings visit the New York Islanders.
