Missouri women’s basketball adds Pepperdine transfer, WCC All-Freshman selection from portal

New Mizzou coach Kellie Harper's first transfer class is up to seven players.

Missouri women’s basketball landed a commitment from Pepperdine freshman guard Chloe Sotell out of the transfer portal on Monday. The 6-foot guard was named to the Western Coast Conference All-Freshman team last season.

Sotell hails from Stamford, Connecticut, but attended high school at Montverde Academy in Florida, where she was part of two national championship-winning teams. She announced her decision to commit to Mizzou via her Instagram account.

The guard spent one season at Pepperdine and led the Wave in scoring, assists and steals as a rookie. She averaged 10.6 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.2 steals per game.

Sotell had a 31.3% mark from 3-point range on 195 total attempts, shot 34.3% from the field and committed more than two turnovers per game.

She is the seventh player Harper and her staff have added out of the transfer portal since arriving in Columbia, and the addition of Sotell makes it a guard-heavy haul.

At the guard spots, the Tigers have signed Kentucky transfer Saniah Tyler, Illinois State’s Shannon Dowell, Florida Atlantic’s Sydney Mains, Rutgers’ Lisa Thomspon and Purdue’s Jayla Smith in addition to Sotell.

The lone portal addition to the frontcourt to date is Cleveland State’s Jordana Reisma.

Mizzou currently has 12 players on its roster for the 2025-2026, with five returners, seven transfers and no high school signees.

Under expected roster limits for the 2025-26 season, which are subject to change pending any adjustments in the House v. NCAA revenue-sharing settlement, college basketball teams can carry 15 players next season.

Whether that roster limit holds or not, Harper said the Tigers’ strategy is unlikely to change.

“Yeah, so the roster limit’s probably not going to affect women's basketball as much as some of the other sports that we're dealing with,” Harper said in response to a question from the Tribune on April 29. … “For us, we're trying to build a roster. We're trying to get the number where we want it to be able to compete and practice consistently and, you know, make sure that we're moving forward the right way.

“So, right now, the limits haven't affected us as much as just building a roster.”

If Mizzou makes any more additions they are likely to be forwards or centers, although a point guard could still be on the wishlist for Harper and company.
