The NWSL playoffs are just around the corner. The dates and times will be announced in the first week of November, with the quarterfinals scheduled for November 7-9 and the semifinals for November 15-16.

San Diego Wave Gets Huge Buy-In From $366 Million NBA Superstar

Through a statement, San Diego Wave announced that NBA superstar Jimmy Butler is a new minority investor of the club.

"San Diego Wave FC announced today that Jimmy Butler, six-time NBA All-Star, Olympic gold medalist, and entrepreneur, has joined the Club’s investor group."

The Warriors player, therefore, joins Alex Morgan in the Wave's ownership group, fulfilling his stated goal of being part of soccer in some way.

"Soccer has been a passion of mine for a long time, and being part of the game in a meaningful way has always been a dream," said Butler, via the club's official statement.

"San Diego has become a city close to my heart, and I’m proud to invest in a Club that is pushing boundaries, building something lasting, and setting a new standard for what women’s sports can be both on and off the pitch," he added.

Controlling Owner of San Diego Wave FC Lauren Lechtman described Butler as a competitor and visionary who shares the club's values and ambition and pointed out that the NBA star brings a global perspective and a deep respect for athletes to San Diego.

A big boost for the Wave, from a player with total estimated career earnings of $366 million, according to Spotrac.
