Soma Records, the Scottish electronic label, report that they've unearthed "Drive", a previously unreleased Daft Punk track from 1994, which the French duo sent the label as a demo. Sorting through old DATs, the Soma folks found a tape simply labeled "Daft Drive", which turned out to be a very early recording from the duo. On their website, the Soma people explain, "The tape had originally been sent with 'Rollin' and Scratchin'' to be released as Soma25. But Soma asked these two bright-eyed and Techno-bound Frenchman, to finish and send 'Da Funk' to accompany 'Rollin' and Scratchin' and DRIVE was shelved for a later date..."Now, Soma plans to release "Drive", in celebration of the label's 20th anniversary. It's the opening track on the three-CD retrospective box set Soma Records: 20 Years, due for release on September 19. The first disc consists of "Soma Classics" featuring tracks by the Black Dog, Slam, and others, in addition to Daft Punk. The second disc is a DJ mix from Slam, while the third is a DJ mix from Silicone Soul. See the full tracklist here and listen to clips from the box set here.
