The Odyssey

The Odyssey

When AratheJay released his debut project Finding Nimo Series: The Capsule, in June 2024, he was already on his way to being regarded as one of Ghana’s next great musical hopes. During the months that followed, high-level performances on collaborations with Black Sherif and Bella Shmurda only seemed to confirm the masked singer’s inevitable ascent. On his full-length debut, The Odyssey, AratheJay (born Samuel Ofei Ankrah Badu) details his journey to stardom without pulling any punches. His thoughts on navigating rocky terrains and testing moments are delivered with a firm conviction that underscores the rigorous approach that has propelled him towards superstardom. AratheJay’s epic journey of resilience and self-discovery is built on a slick Afropop framework, but faith is the through line that connects the project’s 17 songs. A tale of divinely orchestrated success on “Zion” is followed by a plea for continued protection from the Most High on “Cover Me”. When he switches the mood, AratheJay proves that he’s just as capable of soundtracking nights out on the town. “Only Fans” is a delightful slow-burner built around a spartan percussive base and sprightly guitar licks, while the balmy “Alhaji Popping” is hinged on a promise to show a lover a great time. Even when guests show up, they ultimately complement AratheJay’s vision. Fellow Ghanaian Stonebwoy is a foil for the singer on “Talisman,” adding a new dimension to the quasi-worship song. Kumasi stars Beeztrap Kotm and O’Kenneth lean on their vocal dexterity on “Ahuofe” while Kenyan singer Savara joins a grand romantic declaration on “Say I Do”.
