Discover Mental Health - Meet the Editor-in-Chief for Discover Mental Health
Professor Ma-Li Wong, Editor-in-Chief
“The vision for Discover Mental Health has been to establish a unique innovative hub of research excellence focused on one hand on developing high quality innovative research to further our knowledge of the aetiology of mental health, and secondly on research addressing the development of new interventions. Since its launch, the journal has aimed to publish the most exciting research on mental health, across the full range from biology to intervention.”
Editor-in-Chief Professor Ma-Li Wong (MD, PhD) is a physician-scientist licensed in Australia (Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists) and four US states (CA, FL, NY, and PA).
Professor Wong spent several years at the Australian National University and the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute before moving to the USA, where she is currently Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and Professor of Neuroscience and Physiology at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, USA.
Over 20 years, her lab has developed a programme of research spanning bench and clinic to unravel the neurobiology of chronic stress, antidepressants and major depressive disorder (MDD) as well as co-morbid conditions, such as obesity and anxiety.
Professor Wong is highly aware of new advances in the field such as digital mental health, precision psychiatry, and the mental health interfaces with other domains (neurology, immunology, public health). This enables Discover Mental Health to encourage cross-disciplinary collaborations, speeding up the translation of research discoveries into clinical strategies to benefit global populations.
