Stem cell therapy for pediatric diseases: innovations, challenges, and future directions

Participating journal: Stem Cell Research & Therapy

The last few years have seen an increase in the number of research studies involving stem cells due to the favorable outcome of clinical trials. Parents facing limited treatment options for serious pediatric conditions are increasingly willing to invest in advanced therapies that might offer lasting solutions. Stem cells possess a unique regenerative potential which offers hope for many pediatric diseases. Despite this, however, the use of stem cell therapy in children has its own set of challenges such as ethical issues, safety concerns, and the need for age-specific approaches. This Collection invites contributions on the recent advances, challenges and future perspectives and trends in the application of stem cell therapy in pediatric population.

As such, this Collection seeks to focus on both the state of the art and the potential for further development in the area of stem cell therapy for children in the near future. We encourage submissions for original research, review articles, clinic-based research, and viewpoints that focus on the innovations, challenges, and ethical and regulatory aspects related to the use of stem cell therapy in children.

All submissions in this collection undergo the journal’s standard peer review process. Similarly, all manuscripts authored by a Guest Editor(s) will be handled by the Editor-in-Chief. As an open access publication, this journal levies an article processing fee (details here). We recognize that many key stakeholders may not have access to such resources and are committed to supporting participation in this issue wherever resources are a barrier. For more information about what support may be available, please visit OA funding and support, or email [email protected] or the Editor-in-Chief.
