RustFS Roadmap Update: Focusing on Stability and the Road to GA 🚀 #1097

Description

@loverustfs

To our friends across the globe: Thank you.

We are incredibly grateful for the love you’ve shown RustFS. Thanks to your code contributions, forks, and stars, RustFS has become the fastest-growing object storage project in the world.

While we are thrilled by this support from open-source enthusiasts and users, our rapid growth has brought some pressure. We are currently working hard to keep up with issue triage, bug fixes, feature requests, and PR reviews.

We appreciate your enthusiasm, but to ensure your hard work isn't wasted on PRs that fall outside our current scope, we want to clarify our immediate roadmap.

Our Primary Goal: Software stability and bug fixing. We are going all-out to release our Beta and General Availability (GA) versions.

🤝 How You Can Help

We would love your assistance in the following areas:

  • Bug Fixes: Squashing existing bugs.

  • Issue Triage: Helping answer or link duplicate issues.

  • Ecosystem Integration: Building upstream/downstream integrations (e.g., K8s, NixOS, Docker, Operator, Helm, and various load balancers).

🗺️ Roadmap to Stability (PR Guidelines)

To reach a stable release, we are setting strict boundaries on what we can merge right now:

✅ Accepted: Optimization of existing features and performance improvements.

✅ Accepted: Updates and optimizations for STS and IAM permission controls.

✅ Accepted: Improvements to error/exception handling, logging, and observability/metrics.

✅ Accepted: Documentation updates.

❌ NOT Accepted: New features.

We ask for your understanding as we focus on making the core strictly stable.

🌟 The RustFS Vision

To help the world reduce storage costs while boosting data security and storage efficiency!

Let's make this happen together.
