Automattic Welcomes Harper and Elijah Potter

At Automattic, we’re passionate about building exceptional tools that empower users to create, express, and connect. That’s why we’re excited to announce the acquisition of Harper, a grammar checker for developers, as well as the addition of its founder, Elijah Potter, to the Automattic team.
Harper—which is named after novelist Harper Lee—delivers grammar and language suggestions in under 20 milliseconds. (That’s less than 1% of the time it takes a certain popular online grammar tool.) Currently available as a language server and through WebAssembly, Harper combines lightning-fast performance with a privacy-first design, ensuring all processing happens locally on your device to keep user data completely private. It’s also completely open source.
Elijah, the mastermind behind Harper, brings a wealth of expertise and a deep commitment to improving developer tools. As a Code Wrangler at Automattic, Elijah will play a key role in enhancing our products and ensuring seamless integration of Harper’s capabilities across WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Jetpack, and beyond.
We’re thrilled to welcome Elijah to Automattic and can’t wait to see the impact of his contributions as we continue building a better web together. Welcome aboard, Elijah!
