The Birth of Electronic Music

Origins of electronic music were rooted in the so-called Wirthschaftswunder ["German Economic 'Miracle'"; The Concise Encyclopedia of Economics] in the '50s and '60s and were limited to the confines established by the field of modern classical.

By 1960 - '62, composer Herbert Eimert [Perfect Sound Forever] created a sound-composition fusing the speech and speech-sounds of a German translation of the epitaph of Japanese fisherman Aikichi Kuboyama [Union of Concerned Scientists], victim of an H-Bomb "experiment."

The text of the speech, as spoken by Rychard Münch, is incorporated by Eimert to compose the synthesised version of the "Epitaph," recorded at the Studio for Electronic Music [Sounds of Cologne] established by the West German Broadcasting Corporation [Wikipedia].

Eimert developed a form of electronic media through the use of speakers, a magnetophone, [Engineering & Technology Wiki] amplifiers, and filters; developing a purposefully distorted, layered spoken word product — an overlay for pure words and pure sounds achieved through multiple components of the human voice, including the mouth, throat, nose, and trachea.

The first performance of "Epitaph for Aikichi Kuboyama" [Seated Ovation; 3 Part Recording; archived] occurred on July 9, 1962 at Townhall Darmstadt / West Germany. 

Ultimately, West-German Broadcasting introduced "Epitaph and 6 Studies" on September 4, 1962, resulting in a contract with Wergo Records [New Sounds] for the series "Studio-Reihe Neuer Musik." ["A Jazz Noise" via YouTube]

Summary:

Due to the lack of a regular photographer,  Hero shoots all of the photos for the magazine. At the Toxoplasma / E605 concert, the pics were too dark. To compensate, The Adicts photos were shot with a flash that was too strong.  (But was destroyed by slammers anyway.)

The result: no live-pics from one of the best live shows.

The third "Chaos Day" at Hannover [T.V.O.R. #4] will take place on Saturday, August 4th, 1984.  Organizers claim that this will be the "biggest meeting of punks" from Germany and beyond.

Duesseldorf-based Die Autos have released their first self-produced single [Discogs].  Coming soon: a self-produced LP from Ranola [Ezhevika Fields; archived].

Agressive Rock Prod. & Rock-O-Rama ["An interview (part 1 of 2) with Björn Fischer: 'Vomit Visions and Running Soldiers'"; Creases like Knives; archived-pt.1; archived-pt.2] are branded as the "great punk rip-off in Germany."  Example: Toxoplasma made an LP on AGRP, but only received $50 despite the album achieving best-seller status in Germany.  Meanwhile M.A.F. releases an LP on R-O-R.  The company: (1) changed the cover; (2) changed a title; (3) made decisions regarding the mixing; (4) promised 100 free copies of the LP instead of paying the band money; (5) refused to send the free copies to the band and instead insisted that the band drive to the label-owner's place to pick them up.

A new English-language, German fanzine called City Indian will publish two versions:  English & German.  Contact the fanzine c/o Stefan; Kempten, West Germany

Blumen Ohne Duft (new acid-hardcore band from Limburg, Germany) will release a 12" EP.  Targets is a new band formed by ex-members of Slime and Buttocks. There is also a fine new single from Frankfurt-based Der Durstige Mann.  Hopefully a new record will be released in the future by another Frankfurt band - the infamous Cocks on Stained Sateen.
