Here’s everything new in Samsung’s One UI 8 update [Gallery]

Samsung just released its very first One UI 8 update in beta, and while it’s not as big of an update as One UI 7 was, the Android 16-based experience does have a few key changes. Here’s the full changelog, and everything new.

Everything new in One UI 8 for Samsung Galaxy

New Quick Share experience

Quick Share has a new experience on One UI 8 with dedicated “Send” and “Receive” tabs. Users can now select files to be sent over Quick Share via this interface, an alternative to the regular sharing menu. This change is expected to come to all Android devices via an update to Google’s version of Quick Share.

Files app makes it easier to find downloads

The “My Files” app has received a minor update, with Categories now appearing at the top of the app and a dedicated “files added recently” row showing previews of files that you’ve created on the device or downloaded.

Updated Weather app

The Weather app has been updated with new, more realistic people and visuals to show the weather conditions. The app also features more translucent UI elements throughout its various cards.

Samsung Internet menu

The Samsung Internet app has received an updated design that primarily affects the overflow shortucts menu. It makes sharing easier and also allows for shortcuts to be customized.

Split-screen mode gets a OnePlus update

Samsung now supports a 90:10 split for apps in split-screen mode. This works by letting you tap on a portion of the display to swap between apps. It works just like Open Canvas on OnePlus smartphones, a feature first introduced for foldables and tablets, and which has since expanded to traditional smartphones with nearly identical functionality.

Google is rumored to implement this same functionality in Android 16 as a whole, but it’s not yet live, only showing up in “leaked” builds.

Updated Reminder app + Calendar management

Samsung has updated its Reminder app in some big ways, with new categories and suggested reminders. Meanwhile, the Samsung Calendar app can now create and manage reminders.

Can I install the One UI 8 beta?

For now, Samsung is limiting the One UI 8 beta program to select devices in select regions, including Korea, the US, Germany, and the UK. Other regions will follow later.

As for compatible devices, the list is currently quite short:

If you’re in the US, you’ll also be limited to unlocked devices or T-Mobile variants. Other carrier models need not apply.
