1st Safest/Most Dangerous City Ranking

The following table is based on the findings reported in the first edition of our City Crime Rankings publication.� That book was published in 1995 and was based on 1993 crime statistics.� The listing below was limited to the 100 largest cities using 1993 population.� The order was based on the average rankings of cities in six categories: Violent Crime Rate, Property Crime Rate, Murder Rate, Rape Rate, Aggravated Assault Rate and Robbery Rate. The lower the rate, the closer to a ranking of one (and the safer the city.)

This listing is not comparable to our current ranking as the methodology has changed.� It is posted because of interest expressed in our earlier rankings.
