Lily Allen has confirmed that she is back in the studio.

The pop star said on Twitter that Kate Nash's controversial musical comeback was "pretty cool", in response to which Popjustice editor Peter Robinson quipped: "It's better than no music at all isn't it. ISN'T IT LILY."

Allen replied: "You will be pleased to know that i am currently in the f**king studio with @GregKurstin so SHUT UP PETER !"

She added of the sessions: "No big deal really, im just throwing s**t at the wall and seeing if anything sticks."

Kurstin worked with Allen on her debut album Alright, Still and fully produced 2009's follow-up It's Not Me, It's You.

Allen was reportedly spotted at RAK Studios in St John's Wood writing new material in April.

"Lily has been in the studio trying different sounds and writing new tracks," a source claimed at the time.

"She's not at a stage where she can start recording but the new album is definitely under way and there's a chance it could be released early next year."

Allen has denied ever saying that she had retired from showbusiness but said in 2010 that she felt "now is just not to be writing music, and not to be going on the road".
