Ciara’s “Goodies” featuring Petey Pablo makes a 3-1 jump to take over the top of Billboard’s Hot 100. The chart’s fastest growing airplay track for the second week in a row, “Goodies” ends the reign of Terror Squad’s “Lean Back,” which drops to No. 2 after three weeks at No. 1.
Though cuts by Nelly, Lil’ Flip and Kevin Lyttle were seen as possible contenders for the Hot 100 throne, two out of the three slip on the list.
Lil’ Flip’s “Sunshine” featuring Lea drops 2-3 and Lyttle’s “Turn Me On” featuring Spragga Benz dips 5-6. Of the once-advancing trio, only Nelly’s “My Place” featuring Jaheim manages to hang on to its previous position (No. 4) for another week.
Conversely, there are still a couple of challengers to keep an eye on: Christina Milian’s “Dip It Low” enjoys a two-slot bump to No. 5, while Maroon5’s “She Will Be Loved” jumps into the top tier with a 14-9 move.
Rounding out the top 10, Juvenile’s “Slow Motion” featuring Soulja Slim drops 6-7, Ashlee Simpson’s “Pieces of Me” remains steady at No. 8 for a second week and Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You” sits tight at No. 10.
Keys also scores the chart’s top debut with her duet with Usher, “My Boo” at No. 29. The title is has the fourth-highest entry of 2004 and the best for a song not recorded by an “American Idol” finalist. Season three winner Fantasia’s “I Believe” (No. 1), runner-up Diana DeGarmo’s “Dreams” (No. 14) and season two runner-up Clay Aiken’s “Solitaire” (No. 4) are the year’s top three Hot 100 debuts.
Bowling For Soup’s “1985” (No. 72), Christina Aguilera’s “Car Wash” featuring Missy Elliott (No. 73) and Breaking Benjamin’s “So Cold” (No. 77) also enter the Hot 100 this week. Petey Pablo’s “Freek-A-Leek” moves 37-42 and is the chart’s fastest-growing track at retail.
Mase’s “Breathe, Stretch, Shake” featuring P. Diddy also makes a notable 51-41 gain. As reported yesterday, the un-retired rapper returns to The Billboard 200 after five years this week with his latest Bad Boy effort, “Welcome Back.” The set opened at No. 4 with sales of 188,000 copies.
With the biggest leap to the top for a female solo artist in five years, Terri Clark’s “Girls Lie Too” jumps 5-1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. The single ends the seven-week reign of Tim McGraw’s “Live Like You Were Dying.” McGraw’s Curb album of the same name bowed atop The Billboard 200 this week with a career-high opening sales week of 766,000 copies.
Linkin Park’s “Breaking the Habit” extends its stay atop Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks list for the third week in a row and also ends Three Days Grace’s three-week hold on No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks tally. TDG’s “Just Like You” falls to No. 2 on that chart.
