Atlanta-based hip-hop darling Ciara notches a third week atop the Billboard Hot 100, but with two of her titles entering the top 10, Alicia Keys is making another run at the top.
Ciara’s debut single, “Goodies” featuring Petey Pablo is No. 1 on the Hot 100, as well as Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks and R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay charts. The cut’s success is turning out to be a nice warm-up in anticipation of the artist’s Sept. 28 Sho’nuff-Music Line/LaFace full-length debut, also titled “Goodies.”
But with the help of Usher and Tony! Toni! Tone!, Keys is making a lot of noise near the top of the Hot 100. “My Boo,” her duet with Usher, is again the chart’s fastest-growing track at radio and takes an 18-7 jump. Not far behind, her latest single, “Diary” featuring Tony! Toni! Tone!, makes a 12-9 move.
“Diary” is the first top 10 Tony! Toni! Tone! single since 1993’s “Anniversary,” which peaked at No. 10. This is also the first time Keys has enjoyed two songs in the top tier of the Hot 100.
With Ciara locked in at No. 1, Terror Squad’s “Lean Back” and Lil’ Flip’s “Sunshine” featuring Lea are held at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, for the third week in a row. Nelly’s “My Place” featuring Jaheim remains at No. 4 after four weeks.
Maroon5 scores the second top 5 Hot 100 single from its Octone/J debut “Songs About Jane,” as “She Will Be Loved” moves 8-5. “This Love” also peaked at No. 5 on the chart. Rounding out the top 10, Ashlee Simpson’s “Pieces of Me” drops one to No. 6, Christina Milian’s “Dip It Low” gains 9-8 and Akon’s “Locked Up” featuring Styles P parks at No. 10 for the second week.
After a three-year absence from the Hot 100, Destiny‘s Child has the chart’s top debut at No. 30 with “Lose My Breath.” The group’s last appearance came in 2001, when “Emotion” peaked at No. 10. The R&B trio also has the top debut on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart, where “Lose” opens at No. 35. A new album, “Destiny Fulfilled,” arrives Nov. 16 via Columbia.
Other Hot 100 debuts this week include LL Cool J’s “Hush” featuring 7 Aurelius (No. 69), Nelly & Christina Aguilera’s “Tilt Ya Head Back” (No. 75) and Velvet Revolver’s “Fall to Pieces” (No. 77).
Though Petey Pablo’s “Freek-A-Leek” falls 43-50 this week, the track is still the chart’s fastest growing retail title.
Making notable moves up the Hot 100 are Kelly Clarkson’s “Breakaway” (42-31), N.O.R.E.’s “Oye Mi Canto” featuring Daddy Yankee, Nina Sky, Gem Star & Big Mato (67-54), Trick Daddy’s “Let’s Go (2004)” (72-57), Beyoncé’s “Dangerously in Love” (76-60) and Fabolous’ “Breathe” (94-83).
Keith Urban holds the top slot on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart for the second week with “Days Go By,” while Linkin Park continues its reign over the Mainstream Rock Tracks tally for the third week with “Breaking the Habit.”
After four straight weeks on top of the Modern Rock Tracks list, “Breaking” drops to No. 2 to make way for Green Day’s “American Idiot,” which climbs one position to take over the lead.
