Waivers available

For articles submitted in 2025 and 2026, Ocean Microbiology has waivers available to offer that can be requested upon submission and allocated on acceptance. Once the standard peer review process has been completed and the Editors have made a decision to accept the article, authors without funding available won’t need to pay an APC. Enquire here for more information.

All publications will be retroactively indexed once the journal successfully applies to be listed in abstracting and indexing databases.

SAME18 - Aquatic Microbiomes on a Changing Planet

New Content ItemOcean Microbiology is proud to be sponsoring the SAME18 conference on Aquatic Microbiomes on a Changing Planet. The conference will be held in Barcelona from 28th September to 3rd October at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park.

The meeting will bring together leading scientists and early-career researchers from around the globe to discuss new findings, concepts, and techniques that help us understand microbiome structure and function, as well as their responses to stressors such as temperature increases and pollutants.

More information can be found here.

The below Collections are open for submission, please read their scope carefully before submitting your manuscript.

  • Anthropogenic global change and its impact on ocean microbes

Guest Edited by Victor Fernandez-Juarez and Pedro Echeveste

Ocean Microbiology is calling for submissions to our Collection on Anthropogenic global change and its impact on ocean microbes. This collection aims to bring together new research that explores the multifaceted impacts of human activities on marine microbial ecosystems.

Aims and scope

Ocean Microbiology is dedicated to advancing the field by capturing the interactions, adaptations, and roles of microorganisms within marine and aquatic ecosystems. We encourage submissions investigating marine microbial ecology, physiology, and genetics in addition to microbe interactions and symbiosis. We welcome cross-disciplinary research that explores microbial biogeochemistry and the wider potential applications of marine microbes in blue biotechnology and nature-based solutions addressing societal challenges. We are also interested in the impact of climate change on microbial communities and populations, and the modulating or mitigating effects of microbes. The journal will welcome original research articles, reviews, and case reports that contribute to advancing knowledge of marine and aquatic microorganisms.
